The CPFQ Child Sponsorship Program was created to reduce the impact of poverty on Palestinian children. We work with our sponsors and local Palestinian NGOs so that Palestine’s most vulnerable children can receive financial assistance. We also work to raise awareness and increase public knowledge and involvement on issues related to child poverty in Palestine. 2. How many children are sponsored through the CPFQ Palestinian Child Sponsorship Program? There are currently 134 sponsored children in our program with approximately 9 children in urgent need of a sponsor. Sponsor a child now. 3. Does the Child Sponsorship Program employ staff or use volunteers? Since the Child Sponsorship program was established in 1999, it has been administered by dedicated volunteers who give their time in a variety of areas, including clerical and administration, communications, fundraising and information technology. 4. What does a sponsor provide? A sponsor provides financial support (a minimum $70 CAD per month) to enable a Palestinian child to access food, clothing, shelter, education and medical assistance. 5. How much of my sponsorship donations will go to my child? All your sponsorship donations and extra monetary gifts (i.e.; for birthdays, Ramadan, Christmas; etc) will go to your sponsored child. The Child Sponsorship Program does not deduct anything for administrative costs, cover banking fees (including wire transfer costs), office supplies, website maintenance, postage stamps, printing or long distance telephone charges. Separate fund-raising is used to pay for these costs. Our Palestinian NGO partners also do not deduct any fees from your sponsorship donations. 6. How long is the commitment for sponsorship? We require a minimum of one year, but most sponsors continue helping their child until they reach the age of 18. If sponsoring a child isn't right for you, click here to make a general donation to the Palestinian Child Sponsorship Program. 7. Does the CPFQ Child Sponsorship Program provide tax receipts for sponsors and donors? The Canadian Palestinian Foundation of Quebec (CPFQ), a registered charity in good standing with the Government of Canada, issues receipts for sponsors and donors to the Child Sponsorship Program at the end of each tax year. 8. When will I receive my tax receipt? Receipts are mailed no later than the end of February of the year following your donations. 9. How often will I hear from my child? Children are requested to write at least two letters to their sponsors per year. Our Palestinian NGO partners are requested to send one Child Progress Report per year, with an updated photograph to for sponsor. We ask that sponsors mail their letters to us and we in turn forward them to our Palestinian NGO partner for delivery to the child. Remember, communication can be slow due to translation (if applicable) and unreliable mail service to/from the occupied Palestinian Territories. Many sponsors communicate with their sponsored child through email. 10. What if I do not speak Arabic? Correspondence is translated by the CPFQ Child Sponsorship Program You will receive your child’s original message as well as the translated copy in French or English. 11. Is the Child Sponsorship Program a faith-based organization? No, we are not faith-based and our program serves all Palestinian children, regardless of religion. Please complete the short request for information form and we'll send you everything you need to get your sponsorship started. 13. What are my payment options? You may make donations via MasterCard, Visa, preauthorized banking, cash or cheque. 14. Do I have to live in Canada to participate in the program? No. Some of our sponsors reside in the United States, Europe or elsewhere. They therefore send their donations by credit card or wire transfer. Communication is done through telephone and email. 15.
